Do Lab

Do Lab at Coachella 2014

I know, I know – it has taken me forever to write this post – it has taken me forever to write any post (also, what a title huh?)! It was just that I was SO SPENT from the month of April and the partying, that I wanted to forget about Coachella for a little bit, and I really did… until Friday morning when advanced ticket sales went up for 2015. Dammit you guys! I was just getting over my hangover from weekend 1 and weekend 2! They really didn’t give me time to think this through.

As friends asked me “What weekend are you going?!” – I remembered I hadn’t written this post yet: my pros and cons of Weekend 1 and Weekend 2. This was the first year that I went both weekends, and I wanted to provide an honest answer, and I will. It’s just that my opinion is biased. I liked Weekend 2 best – but that’s because I’m spoiled and have good friends who work in the music industry (AKA I had an artist pass and spent time backstage and in the super VIP sections during Weekend 2. HELL YEAH CATERING!). This is not to say YOU will like weekend 2 best.

Being the stylish friends that we are. That's me, my friend, and my friend's arm. Yes, that is the artist pass.

People had advised me beforehand that I would love weekend 2 best because of how chill it would be. No excessive douches, people who really enjoy the music, no rush to see whoever the surprise guest would be – because we all found out during weekend 1. Most of this seemed to ring true (except the douche part, because there will always be douche bags of many forms) but I do think this could easily even out over the years. At some point you won’t be able to distinguish between either weekends, because both will end up having it’s fair share of surprise guests and douchebaggery (Jay-Z showed up during Pharrell’s set, and he hadn’t done that for Weekend 1. And I’m pretty sure Odesza only played Weekend 2). Both will have commercialized pool parties that will no longer have the swag it used to (with the exception of Filter – you will always get free bras and panties – I am so sure). Both are already so “mainstream” – you can no longer call the music festival the place where the hip kids go. It’s simply a music festival, and I can’t hate on that. I can miss the days of single day tickets and chill crowds – but that’s just me being an “aging hipster”.

So back to which weekend I will be at for Coachella 2015¬†and which I think is best. First off, I don’t even know if I am going (*cough* probably will). Like I said, I am aging and this year left me spent and dreaming of Coachella past. BUT I know myself well enough to know that I will probably have “Coachella Envy” and will scramble last minute for a pass. So to save me the anxiety, I did buy passes for 2015 (NOTE: I don’t always get the hookup – so I buy just in case). Which weekend you ask? Well if you notice – I said passes. I bought passes for both weekends. Because let’s face it, the best weekend is both. Go weekend 1 for all the parties and big acts. Go weekend 2 for all the other acts you wanted to see, but had no time for. So that is my two cents. Now, no more Coachella talk until next April PLEASE!
